Company Overview

The Office of Legislative Audits is part of the Maryland General Assembly’s Department of Legislative Services. Our mission is to serve the General Assembly and the citizens of Maryland by providing independent, objective, and non-partisan audits and evaluations of State government agencies and local school systems. These audits assist the General Assembly in its oversight responsibilities and lead to improved performance throughout State government.

Professional Development
At OLA, we’re committed to your professional development. Employees have many training options available to them including:

+ conferences and seminars sponsored by outside organizations.

Continuing Professional Education
As a member of the OLA team, you’ll receive at least 80 hours of CPE every two years. This includes in-house training as well as outside training sponsored by professional organizations such as the Maryland Association of Fraud Examiners. Our CPE programs improve your job skills, keep you current with the latest developments in the profession, and satisfy the continuing education standards of our profession.

Tuition Reimbursement
If you want to further your education or need additional credits to meet the eligibility requirements for the CPA exam, you can take advantage of our tuition reimbursement program. You choose the courses that meet your professional development interests and OLA will help pay the tuition. Or, if you’re interested in pursuing the CPA, CFE, or another professional certification, we'll help pay for a review course

Flexible Work Schedules
Typically, OLA employees work a 40-hour week and have the option to work flexible hours each day. Employees can work their 8-hour workday anytime between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Employees also have the option to telework up to three days per week and they can work a compressed schedule enabling them to take a day off every other week.

Vacation, Personal, Holiday, and Sick Leave
OLA employees receive generous leave benefits including paid time off to sit for the CPA examination. Employees earn between 10 and 25 vacation days each year based on their years of service. Employees also receive 6 days of personal leave and up to 13 paid holidays each year. Employees also earn 15 days of sick leave each year which can be used for their own illness or for the illness of a member of their immediate family.

Insurance
Employees are offered a choice of comprehensive health insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance coverage through various benefit programs offered by the State of Maryland. These benefits are available to employees and their eligible dependents. Among the numerous health insurance options are dental coverage, vision care, and a prescription drug program.

Retirement Plans
OLA employees participate in the State’s Pension System. Employees starting on or after July 1, 2011 become vested after ten years of service and are eligible for full service pension allowances upon accumulating 30 years of eligible service regardless of age. Deferred compensation plans such a 401k are also available to OLA employees.

Student Loan Forgiveness
Employees with the State of Maryland are eligible to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Participants that meet all requirements may qualify for forgiveness on the remaining balance of his or her Direct Loans after making 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time in a qualifying public service position. The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Education and loan forgiveness is contingent on the federal government.
