The Department of the Auditor General (DAG) is looking for motivated self-starting individuals like you to join our team of fiscal watchdogs. The DAG is looking to fill two Auditor 1 positions within the Bureau of Performance Audits. The Auditor 1 position involves auditing government agencies and programs as well as organizations, businesses, and other entities that receive state funds. The auditor determines that compliance with applicable law, regulations, guidelines, rules, and auditing standards are being met.

Work duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching, learning, and applying laws, regulations, guidelines, and auditing standards.
  • Locating, evaluating, and analyzing records and other information.
  • Creating, inputting, accessing, and retrieving data, including but not limited to audit work papers, audit findings, and audit/administrative reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will be expected to work from home (telework) full-time. This position is headquartered in the Capital Complex Finance Building; however, employees are allowed to participate in the Department's telework program. You must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection to telework. Employees in this position may be required to report to the Harrisburg Headquarters occasionally with only 24 to 48 hours' notice. Employees will not be reimbursed for expenses related to that commute, including mileage, tolls, parking, hotels and meals.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/auditing from an accredited college or university; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 12 credits in accounting/auditing and an equivalent combination of work experience in government auditing and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Pennsylvania Drivers' License required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
    • Learn and apply the policies and procedures of the Department of the Auditor General.
    • Learn, research, and apply laws, regulations, and auditing standards.
    • Prepare working papers, audit findings, and reports manually and by using personal computers/related software.
    • Input, access, and/or retrieve data to and from personal computers and/or other computer systems.
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with auditees, audit team, and supervisors.
    • Analyze and evaluate data, programs, controls, accounts and records of auditees.
    • Complete and submit administrative reports within established guidelines and deadlines.
    • Travel to audit sites and/or training sessions within/outside the Commonwealth.
    • Assist in moving working papers, personal computers, supplies, etc., to and from audit sites and office.
    • Work independently and regularly without direct supervision.
    • Work with others (including auditees) in a cooperative, professional and positive manner, avoiding disruptive behavior.
    • Report to work on a regular and reliable basis and to perform job duties at the assigned work site, consistent with the Department of the Auditor General’s attendance and hours of work policies.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • CPA, CFE, CGAP, CGFM, CIA, and/or CISA.

Legal Requirements: 

  • A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
